TweetMyPC lets you remote control your computer, with tweets.
Ever felt the need to download an important file on your home computer when not at home? Ever forgot to shutdown your home PC when leaving for work?
Well, all you need to do to get these done is to have a Twitter account and install TweetMyPC on your machine. You would also of course require a net connection on the running computer.
TweetMyPC is an excellent free tool that listens to commands you provide to it through your Twitter account and performs the action for you.
In basic terms, you are able to remote control your computer with just simple tweet messages. Remember, TweetMyPC works only with a GMail address when registering with the service.
Here are a list of commands you can try with TweetMyPC:
1. Download a file
You can download a file from the internet by specifying download and the URL of the file. TweetMyPC will download the file, and in this way you can get downloads done while away from your home computer.
eg. Your tweet can be something like - “download http://www.xyz.com/report.doc” which will download the document file called Report from xyz.com on to your computer.
2. Shutdown your PC
Shut down your computer by specifying the shutdown command.
3. Standby/Hibernate your PC
You can put your PC in Standby mode with the standby command and hibernate it with the hibernate command.
4. Taking a screenshot of your desktop
Take a screenshot of your desktop just to be sure it is the way you left it while you were heading out, with the screenshot command. TweetMyPC will reply to you with a Twitpic screenshot.
5. Lock your computer
Lock your computer with the lock command.
6. Get a file from your computer
To get a file from your computer, when on your travels, simply mention getfile and provide the file path. If you dont remember the file path, you can specify getfilelist followed by the hard disk drive name (eg. getfilelist C). TweetMyPC will reply with that file attached to your pre-provided GMail address.
You can even create custom commands and do more. Browse through this list of commands to learn more.
